This was written after using the notebook for about five weeks. Overall I am very happy with this machine. There are no buyers remorse yet. 
Pros:
> Laptop looks great with brushed aluminum frame, but the shiny surfaces in the interior, and others have pointed fingerprint magnet. Quick exit from time to time to overcome this problem for me.
> Question Stay fresh (not as hot as my previous HP laptop)
> The build quality seems very good.
> The screen is very loud and clear - 1366 x 768 is more than enough for my purposes, I use the machine for video editing.
> Installation Windows 7 boots faster and seems very stable (more useful than Vista was on my computer that I upgraded to XP).
> Very fast RAM (4GB DDR3) and more enough HD (500 GB).
> Battery life is excellent (the main reason he chose this model), I at least 8 hours + battery is widely used.
> Video and change CPU execution mode is "continuous" (the screen goes blank after 1-2 seconds).
> Xubuntu installation went smoothly and all the hardware, including wireless network card is automatically detected. So I got a good start dual portable (but see cons below).
Cons (enough to pull a star):
> Angle of vision screen is relatively small (not sure if this is really great if memory is presented to the crowd the screen)
> The machine comes with a good amount of preinstalled software to get rid of him. YMMV.
> I found quite annoying Windows 7 UAC to be excluded. No problem so far but I'm pretty paranoid about security on my system. More YMMV.
> I found that Windows 7 random crashes during shutdown - I have not had time to see this, however, however. There may be a Microsoft available.
> Another problem is Windows 7 - I have an old program, which in compatibility mode (Although it worked fine in XP, a laptop). I solved by installing a VirtualBox and install Windows 2000 virtual machine that runs the program perfectly. Another highlight - ASUS shares high definition with three sections: the partition recovery, "C" with the operating system installed, and "the D drive for data. This may not be what you're used to, but can be easily modified with the management tools of Windows 7 on disc. I divided the disk to install Linux.
In general, I think ASUS UL50Vt-A1 is a great value for $ $. Maybe that's not good for the game seriously, but very elegant in its use. I had the same problems as others with a mouse pad, but it takes a little 'From addiction. I have not used a webcam to see the work more. I use it for video chat and I think it'll be fine. I connected the HDMI port on my television high-definition video is fine, but I understand how to get sound through this cable, too. Excellent performance for the money; great mix of features
This replaced a team of six year old Toshiba Satellite notebook that serves perfectly, but is clearly in his last days, a lot of noise.
Although it is too early to know if this product from Asus can match the length of service, his mother enjoyed high reputation among the people build-it-yourself and netbooks have been well received. After exercising this computer for a short time, I'm very impressed.

Users have to decide whether or improved video battery life. A small power button above the keyboard lets make this selection. You can also select an automatic mode that makes the choice for you depending on whether the use of AC or battery being used.
Asus also includes a power management utility that offers four power adjustment scenarios (high performance, entertainment, quiet office or battery saving). Each of these can be customized (screen blanking, screen savers, sleep mode, etc) and to determine balance performance against battery life.
So: can you really get 11 or 12 hours of battery life? Maybe.
If select the battery saving mode, and if you accept the video performance declined and will lose power hungry goodies (like Windows Sidebar) and if you avoid tasks that require lots of energy (such as CD recording or video representation) ... may arrive. What I have done is to use the machine for six hours while enjoying unfettered enhanced video and multiple DVD writing. As an update to an old machine that I could barely get 90 minutes of an AC outlet, six-hour battery to run all functions is excellent.
Their support seems better than many other manufacturers. I registered with the Asus support site, and posted a question on the operation web camera. Within five hours, I had an email response. Very impressive. Although I have not tried it - or had a need - which also has a number 24 / 7 free.

Why not five stars?
Small problems with the total package.
Each one is a minor, and the couple are a matter of personal preference and not a actual fault. However, it is likely to reflect how Asus managed such a combination of price point and performance. While it does not diminish the overall value of this machine collectively stand between four and five star. If there is a 4.5 star option, this team would be there.
Complaints:
(1) does not include recovery of the media. An automated utility asks to be executed during installation (or you can do it anytime you want later.) You will need four DVDs to do this, if you use a DVD-RW, it will take more than an hour). Just as with user manuals in electronic format: this is something that should not be pushed to the consumer, and should have been in the box. Although the utility interface indicates the success (or not), I am left with less confidence in my recovery through self-made than it would with the media that is shipped from the factory.
(2) no speaker volume wheel control. The volume is controlled either through the toolbar (using a mouse or touchpad) or the FN.
(3) No physical switch to turn the adapter Wireless On / Off. This is done through a FN or a task bar icons (and you can not remember the last one, because it can be hidden in Windows 7 choices!).
(4) The web camera software was not easy to identify. This was mainly due to a stupid user interface cartoon also makes it difficult to use. They could have done better, talking to at least one user.
(5) Others have written on the palm rest area super bright. It is a fingerprint magnet pallate absolute and skin oil. Matte or brushed finish, similar to the outer shell of this machine could have eliminated this. I'm thinking about the role of fine-grained sandpaper this rough area up!
(6) prefer an AC adapter that plugs into the back of a laptop. It connects on the left side, which may be in question based on the AC outlet location.
(7) One of the three USB ports on the front right of the machine. If you use this for a mouse (as many skilled could), you right-click the string you may want to place the actual mouse.
None of them are the severe enough to reduce a "buy with confidence" the bottom line for this team. It is lightweight, powerful, mean power and all functions.
