Does anyone know why my laptop constantly powers up by itself?
Its a Thinkpad T22, PIII, Windows 98. I haven't been able to get it to start correctly for a long time now. It tells me "hard drive not installed".The boot order is set up correctly. It's making me crazy! When I want to power it off, I have to hold down the power butten which is also set to turn off the computer in the BIOS setting. After a while I will hear a beep and see that it has turned on. If I unplug it, the laptop stays on until the battery is almost drained and then goes into hibernation. I am wondering if the hard drive problem is in any way related to the powering up problem......should I just accept that the hard drive is dead?
If you're sure that the bios settings aren't messed up, it's time to retire that dinosaur. It sounds more like a bad motherboard or corrupted bios than a bad hard drive. If you need something off the drive, you can yank it out of there and put it on a 2.5" USB hard drive interface.
We have innumerable complaints from most computer users, which more or less tell us about how their computer runs slow every time they switch on the machine. This is a problem to most users who are running an earlier generation of computers using the earlier PIII or PIV technology or whose computers are cluttered up with an excessive amount of programs that somehow has not served the purpose for which it was downloaded till this day.
The following five simple tips will help you in tweaking your System to run faster than what is today:
- Empty your recycle bin regularly. By moving your unwanted documents, files and programs to the recycle bin, you have not actually discarded them physically. They still reside within the storage space, eating up quite an amount of valuable space.
- A computer runs slow when there are several programs that open up on starting the machine. Not all the programs are necessary. Go to the Toolbar option at the right-hand bottom corner of your screen and switch off, as may options as possible by right clicking on the program and selecting End program. This keeps a better performing RAM.
- Clear your old outdated mail files. You may be having huge amount of junk files in your spam folders. Clean up this folder regularly so that more space is available. The more the space the faster would be the operation of your computer. No more computer runs slow problems with more space freeing up.
- If you are having a good amount of data files, try zipping them up with a zip application. Zipping up files would ensure that precious space is now available.
- Run a system update every fortnight or so. This will automatically update your drivers.
With these simple steps you should not be having a problem anymore. Computer runs slow will no more exist and many menu items would open up faster than usual.
