Toshiba's first mini laptop is fairly predictable as a whole. The Toshiba NB100 has a bright 8.9-inch screen with 1024x600 resolution, is with a choice of XP or Ubuntu Linux, has a webcam, microphone, WiFi, Bluetooth (no 3G so far), up to 120 GB of hard drive and, of course, a Intel Atom processor.
So maybe Toshiba have identified what is a netbook, but what is the difference? Toshiba, and an impressive line of portable, including the Toshiba Portégé R500-10U and are willing to maintain its brand and build quality hand in hand. Therefore, Toshiba demand, people will buy the NB100 - It is a mini laptop Toshiba.
The NB100 begins around 259 pounds, which is for Linux and oversized model that has only one hard drive 80GB and 512MB of memory. The Windows XP model will cost closer to 299 pounds, but has a 120GB hard drive and 1GB of RAM everything. The XP model in this case it seems best money.
Aesthetically it's a bit of a mess. The cover seems to have pasted from another mini laptop, so the lines do not match up. No sharp edges, so the whole thing looks like a box lid does not help the dilemma. And with these "edges", seems to be more susceptible to damage. As for the horrible battery protrudes from the back - ask for help with mango Toshiba, which appears to be a disadvantage. Salvation may be the choice of three colors.
The battery itself, a 4-cell 5200mAh Toshiba says it touches three hours of battery life. This is rather poor in comparison with the latest deals Asus, but overall a fairly average figure between the mini notebooks. The option to go for a 9-inch netbook has reaped its fruits in the way of weight - is a fantastic 0.99kg lean - that is the number of Toshiba has created anyway.
The keyboard is surprisingly large, perhaps aided by the battery extends the back, not to compromise the size of the keyboard as the Dell Inspiron Mini 9. The keyboard also extend all the way to the edges as Dell and has no missing keys as the Dell. In another part of the interface, the touchpad is new, of a reasonable size - remember it is only the size of a hardcover book. The left mouse button is slightly longer than the right, presumably to reflect the amount you get used more than the other. Beneath the touch screen indicator lights, very practical.
In general, the Toshiba NB100 is no different to any other 9-inch mini laptop are now available. Maybe this is a point in your favor, how comfortable you are buying on unheard ofs or a great brand like Toshiba? However, it is ugly and underpowered compared to industry leaders. Thus, while Toshiba is a portable set that is not of the group with netbooks - which goes into the hands of Asus. Toshiba's motto, "innovation leader" could not be more appropriate ...
So could you do better? Yes, the Eee PC 901 - our # 1 mini laptop still recommend Toshiba, and perhaps the Acer Aspire One but if you want a simple name, a family network, ideally with XP then the Toshiba NB100 is for you.
