Dell Inspiron 1525?
I'm almost ready to buy the new Dell Inspiron 1525. Core 2 Duo T7250 2 GHz 2 GB of RAM 160 GB HD, etc. comes with or Vista Home Premium Basic - I'm thinking of sticking with Basic Does anyone have experience with this machine and there is no reason to opt for the Home Premium (I am a low user profile, no game no fancy stuff)?
I must say that going to buy this machine cost for temporary use. Dell is not suitable for long-term use, just after the first year which begins to experience battery problems and hardware failure. I understand that this is new, but as long as its price and no I never recommend XPS. Go to HP and buy HP entertainment PC 6700Z ... AMD is better than Intel and especially the lasting mark!
Dell Inspiron Mini 9 - The Vodafone Netbook
Dell is a late bloomer in the growing trend of mini laptops with its 8.9-inch Dell Inspiron Mini 9 (with a "greater Mini 12 'is also included in the series). It looks much like any other Dell laptop - functional - and to some point is. There is nothing radically new in the Mini 9, which has most of what nine inch laptops are, ultimately, the Intel Atom 1.6GHz 1GB of RAM and a bright 8.9-inch screen with a resolution of 1024x600.
Size wise, the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 is generally quite impressive. It is a hairs breath larger than the original Eee PC 701, and thin enough to weigh a little over a kilo. That is more clear is the Eee PC 901 - our # 1 mini laptop.
Connectivity has the usual bells and whistles, Bluetooth and 802.11b / g Wi-Fi, although the inclusion of HSDPA is a big advantage. The only problem is that it is bound by a contract with Vodafone - no "unlocked" as an option, Advent 4213, so far anyway. More on that later ...
Duration battery, while better than the 3-cell MSI Wind, is quite poor compared with 6-cell competition Eee PC and similar. Dell pledges for about 4 hours battery; reasonable, but not a patch on the same size Eee PC 901. In an attempt to maintain the compact laptop, the battery will come in the keyboard area, eliminating the full line of F1-F12 keys, and leaving the key depth too shallow anyway. The keyboard does not extend the right to the edges well, so is not great as it seems. In general, both the battery and the keyboard are a bit compromised. The touchpad is nice though, with the mouse buttons below, not next, as the HP Mini-note or Acer Aspire One
Has again been disappointing, like most Dell computers - or deaf? The interface looks boring and apart closer to the edges - is a picture. And it is only available in black in the United Kingdom. Smart maybe, but for consumers, certainly something more imaginative welcome! This is especially unfair, as some Mini 9 are emerging in states with Dell Studio 15esque regimes. Undoubtedly, these are reduced by successful - A success anyway compared to the black, black, black. Rumour has it a white is one of the way though.
£ 299 for the 8GB model XP (or £ 269 for 4 GB Linux) is a bit expensive considering what Acer are selling, but thanks to Vodafone, is available free on the contract. The contract further cheap, at the time of publication, is £ 21.27 a month for 24 months - to be blunt and soft marketing undo all of Vodafone - the "free" Dell will cost you a straight £ 600.
Oh, and only 1 GB of bandwidth, enough (demand for Vodafone) to download large attachments 60 and 30 video clips, send 600 emails and surf for 30 hours. And do not you dare try and take your Dell Inspiron Mini 9 abroad in Vodafone - £ 9.99 per 24 hours or £ 4.99 per MB, maybe put the money to better use.
On the subject of mini laptops in the contract, there are a few companies offer - The Carphone Warehouse, for example. Currently, the rates seem relatively terrible, even if it does chip for the team first, and relatively download speeds. We hope this improves as more and more large companies on the market.
Solid state storage and cooling system passive (ie no fan) gives a very quiet machine, a nice feature. The storage system itself is a bit on the small side, 8 GB for the version of XP - one half for Linux, in particular after the Windows and pre-installed programs are taken into account.
It seems, keyboard problems the battery life aside, the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 is a very good team. As much as we slam Dell, they are a trusted brand and family - that can only be a good thing any such reduction. But apart from the Vodafone contract, there are nine other netbooks that are worth considering, and even 10-inchers at the same price bracket as follows:
- Asus Eee PC 901 - Our # 1 mini laptop
- Acer Aspire One
- Samsung NC10
- HP 2133 Mini-Note
Vodafone Option is certainly worth a look if you want Internet when and where, although download speeds are somewhat restrictive. If you can make it work MoneyWise, then it is an excellent choice. It should be noted, however, before you sign off for 24 months, that several laptop manufacturers (Sony and Apple are two different) and phone providers the mobile cart hook yet netbook - better netbook with 3G, 'open', may be just around the corner.
Dell has managed to go and produce a big brother to the Inspiron Mini 9 - the Inspiron Mini 12. Already in Japan, which will soon come to the UK with Linux, Windows XP and Vista. The problem is they are trying to run Vista with 1GB of RAM and the same Intel Atom processor - stupid move - Asus have their top of the range of 10-inch N10 netbook Atom, with its big brother N20 on an Intel Core 2 Duo.
