UL20FT Asus 12.1-inch laptop now available
Basically, the UL20FT is an updated version of the Asus UL20A I reviewed last year. The main difference is that while the UL20A ships with a 1.3GHz Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300, the new model has a new generation i-series Core CPU. The design of the box, and Most of the specs look very much the same in both models.
Oh yes, there is another difference. While UL20A Asus sells for about $ 540, Asus UL20FT was released today on sale today for around $ 630. Therefore worth the extra $ 90?
People Notebook Review took new model for a spin, and were very impressed with their performance. It's just the fastest machine around, but certainly scored higher in most of evidence that some other thin and light notebooks in its class. That includes the Lenovo ThinkPad X100e, I recently reviewed.
Moreover, while the integrated graphics are good enough for high-definition video, you probably will not want to use the Asus as a machine UL20FT games. And Notebook Review has only 4.5 hours of runtime out of the [battery title = "asus laptop battery" asus] Batteries>, which is about 90 minutes less than the "maximum of 6 hours" of battery life Asus promises.
That said, Asus tend to carry their laptops with a power management utility. Although I have just over 4 hours of run time in "high performance" UL20A way last year, I managed to get about 6 hours of battery life in "battery saver" mode [ title = "ASUS laptop battery"> ASUS laptop battery]. Would not surprise me if you can get similar results by adjusting Ul20FT setting the Asus.
Therefore worth the extra $ 90? That depends on whether you need a little more power than the Asus UL20A can offer. But I did not expect a huge difference in performance. But I suspect Asus will soon begin phasing UL20A, what it means to be the only UL20FT option available. I should also note that when the UL20A Asus was first launched for $ 599. So do not be surprised if Asus finally reduces the price the UL20FT well.
In addition, several 11.6-inch laptops with AMD processors based on the Nile also hit the streets this summer, with similar prices and enhanced graphics processors. So UL20FT has some competition from portable as the Dell Inspiron M101z, Acer Aspire One 721, and Acer Aspire 1551.
