Dell is a gaffe late in the growing trend of mini-laptops with its 8.9-inch Dell Inspiron Mini 9 (with a superior 'Mini 12' is also Included in the series). It is much like any other Dell laptop - functional - and to some extent it is. There is nothing radically new in the Mini 9 that the 9-inch laptops most other short, the Intel Atom 1.6GHz, 1GB RAM and a bright 8.9-inch screen with resolution 1024x600.
Sage, the size of the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 is generally quite impressive. It is a puff hair bigger than the Eee 701 PC original and thin enough Although just over a kilo. This is the lighter of the Eee PC 901 - our # 1 mini-laptop.
The connectivity is usually bells and whistles, Bluetooth and 802.11b / g Wi-Fi, although the inclusion of HSDPA is a major asset. The only problem is that it is bound by a contract with Vodafone - No "unlock" option as the Advent 4213, as anyway. More later ...
Autonomy battery, much better than the 3 cell MSI Wind is rather poor compared to the competition 6-cell Eee PC and tastes. Dell promises to approximately 4 hours; reasonable but not a patch on the same size Eee PC 901. In an attempt to keep the alliance of mobile, battery eating area at the keyboard, removing the line F1-F12, leaving the depth of the keys very shallow anyway. The keyboard does not extend to either edge, so it is no larger than it seems. In general, both the battery and the keyboard are a little compromised. The touchpad is nice though, with the buttons mouse down, step aside as the HP Mini-Note or the Acer Aspire One
Styles again with disappointing with most Dell computers - Or is he deaf? The interface looks bored and slightly beyond the edges - is a box. And it is only available in black in the United Kingdom. Smart maybe, but for the consumer, something more creative would have certainly appreciated! This is particularly unfair, since nearly 9 mini-states emerging in Studio Dell provides 15esque. Currently, rates seem relatively atrocious, even if it does on the computer chip first, and compared with download speeds. We hope it improves as more and more large companies enter the market.
Solid state storage and passive cooling (no fan) give a fairly quiet machine, an interesting option. The storage system itself is a little on the small side, 8 GB for the XP version - half that of Linux, especially after pre-installed Windows and the programs are taken into account.
See, the keyboard and problems of life of the battery side, the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 is a very good team. As far as we slam Dell, they are a mark of confidence and familiarity - which can be a good thing when any reduction of staff. But outside the Vodafone contract, there is another 9 "netbooks are worthy of consideration, and even 10 Inchers the same range price as follows:
- Asus Eee PC 901 - Our # 1 mini-laptop
- Acer Aspire One
- Samsung NC10
- HP 2133 Mini-Note
Option Vodafone is certainly worth looking at if you want the Internet wherever and whenever, even if the download speeds are somewhat restrictive. If you can make it work Moneywise, it is a good option.
